CCTV footage reportedly shows the teacher hitting the child before he collapsed. Police are investigating, while the exact cause of death awaits the post-mortem report.
A six-year-old boy died after collapsing inside his classroom at a private school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, shortly after a teacher allegedly slapped him over incomplete homework.
The child, identified as Pranay Teja, was a student at Little Garden School in the city’s One Town area. Police and local authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
CCTV Shows the Classroom Incident
CCTV footage from the classroom reportedly shows Pranay standing in a queue while holding his slate. He appears distressed and is seen crying as the teacher reprimands him.
The footage shows the teacher pulling the child closer and slapping him. Moments later, Pranay collapses towards her.
School staff rushed to help and attempted CPR before taking him to a nearby hospital. Doctors at King George Hospital declared him dead on arrival.
Cause of Death Has Not Been Established
The circumstances surrounding the child’s collapse remain under investigation.
A local official suggested that the boy may have suffered a cardiac event following extreme panic, but doctors have cautioned against concluding the post-mortem examination.
The child’s body was sent to King George Hospital for an autopsy, with the findings expected to establish the medical cause of death.
Pranay’s father said his son appeared healthy when he left home that morning and had been playing normally the previous evening. The family has rejected suggestions that the child had been unwell and has demanded strict action if wrongdoing is established.
Police Begin Investigation
Police have registered a case following the family’s complaint, while authorities have ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The death has also triggered protests and renewed concerns over physical punishment in schools. Andhra Pradesh minister Nara Lokesh said strict action would be taken against those responsible and the school management in accordance with the law.
At this stage, the teacher’s alleged assault and the child’s subsequent collapse are established as the sequence shown in the available reports and CCTV footage. The exact medical link between the slap and the death has not yet been established.
The post-mortem findings and police investigation will therefore be critical in determining how Pranay died and whether anyone can be held legally responsible for his death.
The incident, involving Pranay Teja, took place at a school in the city’s One Town area.
