Abu Dhabi: The UAE’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has launched a new phase of its National Scholarship Program, preparing 150 Emirati students for overseas studies under an updated framework that aligns higher education with the country’s long-term development priorities.
To mark the launch, the ministry hosted an orientation forum under the theme “From the UAE to the World… Determination and Ambition.” The event brought together students, parents, government officials, and strategic partners to prepare participants for life abroad while introducing the academic, administrative, and personal support available throughout their studies.
Scholarship Program Aligned With UAE Development Goals
The updated National Scholarship Program places a stronger focus on academic fields that support the UAE’s future economic growth and workforce needs.
Accordingly, the ministry awarded scholarships in disciplines linked to national priorities, including engineering, artificial intelligence, technology, medicine, life sciences, social sciences, and management.
In addition, the revised framework expands academic, administrative, and social support, helping students navigate every stage of their journey, from university admission to graduation and their return to contribute to the UAE’s development.
Preparing Students for Life Abroad
The orientation forum also familiarised students and their families with the practical aspects of studying overseas, including administrative procedures, student services, and adapting to life in a new country.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Fatwa Council led awareness sessions, while current scholarship recipients shared their experiences and practical advice with students preparing to leave.
The programme also highlighted the vital role families play in supporting students throughout their educational journey.
Investing in Future National Talent
Dr. Ahmed Sultan Al Shuaibi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, described the National Scholarship Program as one of the UAE’s most important investments in developing national talent.
He said the programme measures success not only by earning a university degree but also by choosing leading institutions, studying subjects that serve national priorities, and returning to help shape the country’s future.
“You do not represent yourselves alone. You represent the UAE, its values, and its national identity wherever you are,” he told the students.
He added that the ministry will continue to monitor students’ academic progress and provide support throughout their studies.
Strong Demand for Overseas Scholarships
The National Scholarship Program continued to attract strong interest throughout 2026.
This year, the ministry received 2,767 scholarship applications and has awarded 244 scholarships so far.
Meanwhile, the programme currently supports 596 Emirati students studying in 22 countries, while 116 students have graduated since the start of 2026.
Partnerships Expand Scholarship Opportunities
At the same time, the ministry is strengthening links between education and future employment.
To achieve this, it has signed agreements with 11 national organisations to create 160 additional scholarship opportunities in priority sectors.
These partnerships will help students earn qualifications that match the UAE’s labour market needs while creating clearer pathways into key industries after graduation.
Overall, the updated scholarship framework forms part of the UAE’s broader strategy to develop a highly skilled national workforce capable of driving innovation, economic diversification, and sustainable development in the years ahead.
