Dubai: India has appointed Dr Emmadi Vishnu Vardhan Reddy as the new Consul General of India in Dubai, strengthening its diplomatic presence in the UAE, which is home to one of the world’s largest Indian expatriate communities.
The appointment was confirmed by the Consulate General of India in Dubai. A 2008-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Dr Reddy will serve as India’s senior diplomatic representative in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
He succeeds Satish Kumar Sivan, who previously held the position.
Experienced Diplomat
Dr Reddy brings nearly two decades of diplomatic and administrative experience to the role.
According to an official biographical note published in Telangana Industrial Health Clinic Limited’s 2023-24 annual report, he has served at Indian diplomatic missions in Madrid and Geneva, where he handled bilateral relations and multilateral diplomacy.
He also worked at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, serving in the Europe West Division, the Latin America and Caribbean Division, and the External Publicity Division, giving him experience across both regional diplomacy and public engagement.
Administrative and Investment Experience
Before his appointment to Dubai, Dr Reddy served as the Regional Passport Officer in Hyderabad, overseeing passport and consular services.
He later joined the Government of Telangana as Special Secretary for Investment Promotion and External Engagement, where he worked on attracting investments and strengthening the state’s international partnerships.
According to Telangana Today, his posting to Dubai marks his first diplomatic assignment in the Gulf region.
Strengthening India-UAE Relations
Dr Reddy takes charge at a time when India and the UAE continue to deepen cooperation across trade, investment, technology, energy, tourism, education, and people-to-people ties.
The Consulate General in Dubai plays a key role in serving the large Indian community in the emirate and the Northern Emirates by providing passport, visa, attestation, and welfare services while also promoting commercial, cultural, and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
India and the UAE have significantly expanded their partnership in recent years, supported by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and growing bilateral trade and investment.
As Consul General, Dr Reddy will oversee diplomatic engagement, consular services, and community outreach while further strengthening India’s relationship with one of its most important international partners.
