Police say the baby was passed through four transactions and taken more than 550 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Hyderabad before being rescued.

A one-month-old baby from Maharashtra was allegedly sold four times before police rescued him in Hyderabad, more than 550 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Seven people, including the child’s parents and alleged intermediaries, have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to police, the child’s parents, who were in a live-in relationship and lived in Mukundwadi, allegedly sold their son to an intermediary, Seema Reshwal, for Rs 1.2 lakh. Police said the couple used the money to buy two mobile phones and a gold chain.

The case came to light on September 20 after the child’s mother approached police with a complaint alleging that she had been assaulted. During the investigation, officers discovered that the couple had allegedly sold their one-month-old son.

Baby Passed Through Four Transactions

Investigators allege that Reshwal subsequently sold the baby to Sangeeta Avhad, a resident of Padegaon, for Rs 2.77 lakh. Avhad then allegedly sold the child to Suresh Guntuka for Rs 3.5 lakh.

Guntuka, whom the report described as an alleged fake doctor, is accused of handing the baby to his relative Uma Khatkam in Hyderabad in another transaction involving Rs 3.55 lakh.

Police then traced the child to Hyderabad and rescued him. Efforts were underway to bring the baby back to Maharashtra, according to the report.

Phones and Gold Chain Seized

Police said the parents allegedly spent the money from the first transaction on two mobile phones and a gold chain. The items have since been seized.

Pundliknagar police inspector Vivek Sonawane is leading the investigation. Seven people, including the child’s parents, Reshwal, Avhad and Guntuka, have been arrested.

A case has been registered against the biological parents and alleged intermediaries under relevant provisions of the law. Investigators are also examining whether some of those accused of acting as middlemen may have links to other child-trafficking cases.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police working to establish the full chain of transactions and the circumstances surrounding the child’s movement from Maharashtra to Hyderabad.
