The launch aims to improve liquidity and provide greater flexibility for gold market participants.
Dubai is set to strengthen its position as a global bullion trading hub with the launch of the region’s first Gold Spot T+0 Contract, a same-day physically settled gold product that will begin trading on June 22, 2026.
The new contract, introduced by the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX), marks a significant milestone for the Gulf’s precious metals market. It is the first regulated exchange-traded gold spot product in the GCC to offer same-day execution, clearing, and physical settlement within a single framework.
The move is expected to enhance liquidity, improve price discovery, and provide market participants with a more efficient way to trade physical gold.
First-of-Its-Kind Product in the GCC
The Gold Spot T+0 Contract has been developed to meet growing demand for faster settlement and greater operational efficiency in physical gold trading.
Unlike traditional over-the-counter (OTC) transactions, which can involve settlement delays and counterparty risk, the new contract combines exchange trading, central clearing, and physical delivery within a regulated market structure.
The contract is based on 1-kilogram UAE Good Delivery gold bars and will be settled in UAE dirhams, offering market participants a locally benchmarked product linked directly to physical bullion.
Designed for Professional Market Participants
DGCX said the contract has been specifically created for bullion dealers, refineries, brokers, clearing members, institutional investors, and other professional participants involved in the gold ecosystem.
All trades will be cleared through the Dubai Commodities Clearing Corporation (DCCC), helping reduce counterparty risk while ensuring settlement certainty.
Physical delivery will be facilitated through approved vault infrastructure, creating a seamless link between trading activity and actual gold ownership.
By connecting exchange-based trading directly with physical delivery, the contract aims to reduce operational friction and improve market efficiency.
Strengthening Dubai’s Gold Market
Dubai has long played a pivotal role in the global gold trade, serving as a major gateway between gold-producing regions and key consumer markets across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
The emirate handles significant volumes of bullion each year and has built a reputation as one of the world’s leading precious metals trading centers.
According to DGCX data, total trading volume on the exchange increased by 30% year-on-year in 2025 to 2,048,556 lots. The total value of contracts traded reached approximately $46.96 billion.
Average daily trading volumes rose to 7,940 lots, while average open interest increased to 13,015 lots, highlighting continued market participation and liquidity growth.
Supporting Price Discovery and Liquidity
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DGCX, said the launch represents an important step in strengthening the UAE’s gold trading infrastructure.
“Dubai is one of the world’s leading hubs for physical gold trade, handling significant bullion flows between East and West. As the market continues to expand, participants increasingly need faster, more efficient, and more transparent ways to trade and settle physical gold,” he said.
Bin Sulayem added that combining exchange trading, central clearing, and same-day physical settlement within a regulated framework will provide market participants with greater certainty and operational efficiency.
He noted that the contract is expected to deepen market liquidity, improve price discovery, and establish a stronger benchmark for physical gold trading in the UAE.
What the Launch Means for the Gold Industry
The introduction of the Gold Spot T+0 Contract places Dubai among a select group of international financial centers offering regulated same-day settlement for physical gold.
For traders and institutions, the product offers faster access to liquidity, lower settlement risk, and greater transparency compared with traditional trading mechanisms.
As demand for physical precious metals continues to grow globally, the new contract is expected to enhance Dubai’s competitiveness as an international bullion hub while supporting the broader development of the region’s commodities markets.
With the June 22 launch date approaching, industry participants will be watching closely to see how the contract contributes to the evolution of gold trading in the UAE and across the GCC.
