The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey, the capital of Niger, which resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) reaffirmed the country’s firm stance against terrorism and violence in all its forms, emphasizing its continued commitment to supporting efforts aimed at promoting security, stability, and peace worldwide.
UAE Reaffirms Rejection of Terrorism
The Ministry stated that the UAE strongly condemns criminal acts targeting innocent people and rejects all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism that threaten the safety and stability of societies.
The UAE also reiterated its support for Niger and international efforts aimed at combating terrorism and preserving regional security.
Condolences to Victims and Their Families
MOFA expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Niger.
The Ministry also wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured during the attack.
“The UAE expresses its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, and to the government and people of Niger, and wishes a swift recovery to all those injured,” the statement said.
Attack Targets Niger’s Main International Airport
According to reports, the attack targeted Diori Hamani International Airport, Niger’s primary international gateway located in Niamey.
The Nigerien government stated that the assault resulted in the deaths of 11 members of the security forces and two civilians, while several others were injured.
The incident marks the second major attack on the airport complex this year. In January, the facility was also targeted in an assault reportedly linked to a terrorist group operating in the region.
Regional Security Concerns Continue
The latest attack highlights ongoing security challenges facing parts of the Sahel region, where governments continue to combat armed extremist groups and terrorist organizations.
Niger has experienced some security incidents in recent years as authorities work to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and protect critical infrastructure.
