Police continue investigating the incident after reports of a family dispute and concerns over the woman’s mental health.
A tragic incident in Sharjah’s Al Nahda area has left residents in shock after an Indian expatriate woman and her five-year-old daughter died following a fall from a high-rise residential tower.
According to eyewitnesses and building staff, the 35-year-old woman allegedly threw her daughter from the balcony of their apartment before jumping herself. The incident reportedly occurred around 7:15 am on Wednesday.
Residents said the family lived on the 15th floor of the building. However, because the tower has multiple parking levels and additional facilities below, the victims fell from a height of about 22 floors.
Building security personnel said they heard a loud sound and rushed outside, where they discovered the child on the road and the mother on the pavement beneath the 32-storey tower.
Emergency services and police arrived shortly afterward, cordoning off the area for several hours while authorities conducted preliminary investigations and removed the bodies from the scene.
Police Question Husband as Investigation Continues
According to residents and building staff, Sharjah Police had reportedly visited the apartment a day earlier following a family dispute.
The woman’s husband, who works in Dubai as an aircraft resource allocation officer, is currently being questioned as part of the investigation.
Neighbors said the husband informed building security that his wife had been struggling with mental health issues.
The family, originally from Kerala, had reportedly been married for 12 years and had lived in the same apartment for more than seven years.
The woman’s sister and her family reportedly lived in a neighboring apartment within the same building, while other relatives also reside in the UAE.
Residents said the woman operated an online business from home.
Residents Remember the Young Child
Neighbors described the little girl as friendly and cheerful.
The building’s security guard recalled seeing her every morning before school, waving goodbye to her father.
Residents in the tower said the incident has deeply shaken the community, with many struggling to process what happened.
Sharjah Police confirmed earlier that the case has been registered as a suicide and referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
Authorities have not publicly released the identities of the victims.
