The embassy has invited Indians across the UAE to join Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi has invited members of the Indian community and friends of India across the UAE to join celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026.

The celebrations will be held at the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi, with the programme beginning at 6.30 am. The national flag will be hoisted at 7 am, followed by a programme commemorating the occasion and bringing members of the Indian community together.

The event will provide an opportunity for Indians living across the UAE, along with friends of India, to mark the national occasion and celebrate the country’s heritage, history and national spirit.

The UAE is home to one of the world’s largest Indian expatriate communities, with Indians making up a significant part of the country’s population and contributing across sectors including business, healthcare, education, technology, finance and construction.

Independence Day celebrations have traditionally brought together Indian families, professionals, students and community organisations across the Emirates.

In 2025, hundreds of members of the Indian community gathered at the Indian Consulate in Dubai to mark India’s 79th Independence Day. The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag and the national anthem, followed by an address from then Consul General Satish Sivan.

The celebrations also featured cultural performances showcasing traditional and contemporary Indian music and dance. A Tiranga photo exhibition highlighting the history and evolution of India’s national flag was also organised.

India’s Independence Day was also marked by a prominent display in Dubai last year, when the Burj Khalifa was illuminated in the colours of the Indian tricolour on August 15.

The display took place at 7.50 pm, with the Indian flag appearing across the facade of the world’s tallest building. The Indian Consulate in Dubai shared footage of the landmark illuminated in celebration of India’s 79th Independence Day.

The annual celebrations across the UAE reflect the longstanding relationship between India and the Emirates, as well as the deep connections between the two countries’ people.

This year’s Independence Day will mark 80 years since India gained independence on August 15, 1947, with the Indian community in the UAE expected to come together once again to commemorate the occasion.
