The Texans defensive tackle was fined after making low contact with Josh Allen as the Bills quarterback released a pass during the Week 1 clash.

The NFL has fined Houston Texans defensive tackle Mario Edwards $8,263 for a low hit on Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen during the teams’ Week 1 matchup.

Edwards was penalized for making contact around the knee area or below on a passer as Allen released a pass during the third quarter of Buffalo’s 36-31 victory over Houston.

The incident occurred with 7:22 remaining in the third quarter of the season opener.

Mario Edwards Fined $8,263

The NFL’s disciplinary action relates to its rule prohibiting contact at or below the knee area of a passer.

Edwards, who earns approximately $1.48 million annually, will pay an $8,263 fine for the play.

The hit occurred during a closely contested opening game in which Buffalo eventually secured a five-point victory.

For Edwards and the Texans, the fine adds to the aftermath of a game Houston narrowly lost despite putting up a strong fight against one of the AFC’s established teams.

Josh Allen Helps Bills Move to 2-0

Allen and the Bills quickly moved on from the incident and continued their strong start to the season.

Buffalo defeated the Detroit Lions 41-31 in Week 2, improving to 2-0.

Allen played a central role in the victory, accounting for five touchdowns as Buffalo secured its second consecutive win.

The game also marked the first NFL matchup at Buffalo’s new Highmark Stadium, adding significance to the Bills’ home opener.

Texans Turn Attention to Cincinnati

Houston also moved into Week 2 following the loss to Buffalo, with the Texans preparing for their matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Edwards fine now concludes the NFL’s disciplinary action stemming from his contact with Allen in the season opener.

While Buffalo has moved to 2-0, Houston will look to respond on the field as the Texans continue their season.
