The announcement comes as the tournament heads into its semifinal stage in Kolkata and Mumbai.
As the T20 World Cup enters its knockout phase, the International Cricket Council has confirmed the match officials for both semifinals scheduled in Mumbai and Kolkata.
Officials for India vs England in Mumbai
New Zealand’s Chris Gaffaney and South Africa’s Allahuddien Paleker will serve as the on-field umpires for the semifinal between the India national cricket team and the England cricket team in Mumbai on Thursday.
Zimbabwe’s Andy Pycroft will take charge as match referee.
Gaffaney previously officiated when India and England met at the same stage during the 2024 edition, adding continuity to the high-stakes fixture. Meanwhile, Paleker has already overseen two of England’s matches in this tournament, along with India’s win over the Netherlands.
Supporting the on-field officials, Adrian Holdstock will act as the third umpire, while Paul Reiffel will serve as fourth umpire.
Officials for South Africa vs New Zealand in Kolkata
In the first semifinal at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf will officiate as on-field umpires for the clash between the South Africa national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team.
Nitin Menon has been appointed as the third umpire, while Rod Tucker will handle fourth-umpire duties. Javagal Srinath will oversee proceedings as match referee.
Illingworth brings semifinal experience, having stood in South Africa’s semifinal two years ago. Wharf, meanwhile, officiated in New Zealand’s group-stage win earlier in this tournament.
With experienced officials assigned to both fixtures, the ICC has finalized preparations as the tournament moves into its decisive stage.
