Month-long campaign engages parents and children to promote family values, responsible technology use, and safer home environments.

As part of the UAE’s continued emphasis on family as a cornerstone of society, Sharjah Police has launched the month-long “Awareness Begins at Home” campaign. Through this initiative, authorities highlight the household as the first space where children develop values, discipline, and behavioural habits before carrying them into schools and the wider community.

To maximise its reach, Sharjah Police has partnered with the Ministry of Education, Sharjah Private Education Authority, Child Safety Department, Sharjah Social Services Council, and Sharjah Children. Together, these entities will deliver a coordinated programme that strengthens social awareness, encourages responsible technology use, and empowers families to play an active role in shaping positive behaviour at home.

Building Values Through Daily Practice

According to Faisal bin Nassar, Director General of the General Department of Community Protection and Prevention, the campaign prioritizes practical behavior over theoretical instruction, framing values as outcomes of consistent daily actions within the home rather than abstract concepts.

In this context, the initiative places clear emphasis on discipline, responsibility, respect for others, and adherence to social norms, presenting them as habits that families actively build through routine interactions, conscious parental modeling, and continuous guidance. Instead of relying on formal instruction alone, it reinforces the idea that everyday behavior shapes long-term character.

At the same time, the campaign extends its focus beyond the household by highlighting how social environments influence children’s development, particularly through peer interactions and the need for structured supervision, both of which play a critical role in reinforcing or challenging the values established at home.

Focus on Responsible Digital Behavior

A central component of the initiative is addressing the growing impact of technology on younger generations. The campaign introduces guidance on responsible digital use, reflecting rising concerns around online safety, excessive screen exposure, and unregulated content consumption.

Parents are encouraged to adopt a more active role in monitoring digital habits, establishing boundaries, and engaging in informed conversations about online behavior. The objective is not restriction alone but developing awareness and accountability in how technology is used.

Digital Outreach and Community Engagement

The campaign is being delivered through a combination of digital and on-ground efforts, with Sharjah Police actively using its platforms to distribute targeted content, including short videos, visual materials, and structured messages tailored for both parents and children.

At the same time, these digital efforts are reinforced through field activities such as educational sessions, workshops, and community lectures conducted in collaboration with partner organizations. This dual approach allows the campaign to remain accessible while maintaining direct, consistent engagement with families across different segments of society.

Parenting as a Long-Term Social Investment

Within this framework, the initiative positions parenting not only as a personal responsibility but as a critical factor influencing broader social stability. It draws a direct connection between value formation within households and outcomes related to community safety, cohesion, and long-term national development.

By placing emphasis on early behavioral formation, the campaign seeks to address potential risks before they emerge, particularly those linked to social misconduct, digital misuse, and the gradual weakening of family structures, reinforcing the idea that long-term societal strength begins with consistent practices at home.

Conclusion

The “Awareness Begins at Home” campaign reflects a structured attempt to reconnect social development with the family unit. It reinforces the idea that stability at the societal level is built through consistent practices within individual households, where behavior, discipline, and awareness are formed long before they are tested outside.
