Twenty professional skydivers formed the shape of the Galaxy Z Fold8 in free fall above Dubai to mark the smartphone’s launch.

Dubai: Samsung Gulf Electronics celebrated the regional launch of its new Galaxy Z Fold8 with one of its most ambitious marketing activations to date, sending 20 professional skydivers into the skies above Dubai to recreate the smartphone’s distinctive folded shape in free fall.

The aerial display, carried out in partnership with Skydive Dubai, transformed the skies above Palm Jumeirah into a moving tribute to Samsung’s latest foldable flagship, combining precision skydiving with wearable technology and cinematic storytelling.

Twenty Skydivers Recreated the Galaxy Z Fold8

The stunt began with a team of experienced skydivers jumping from an aircraft thousands of feet above Dubai.

After exiting the plane, the athletes manoeuvred into position before locking themselves into a carefully choreographed formation inspired by the new shape of the Galaxy Z Fold8.

Executing the formation required split-second timing, precise body control, and constant coordination while descending at high speed.

The activation was designed to symbolise the device’s redesigned foldable form while showcasing Dubai’s reputation as a destination for record-breaking aerial events.

Galaxy Watch Helped Coordinate the Formation

Each participant wore either the new Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 or the Galaxy Watch 9 during the jump.

Samsung said the watches helped synchronise timing throughout the formation, enabling the team to maintain their positions during freefall.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2, introduced alongside the Fold8, is designed for demanding outdoor environments and features a titanium body, sapphire crystal display, IP69K durability rating, and a display capable of reaching 5,000 nits of brightness for improved visibility in bright conditions.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Introduces a New Design

Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 during its Galaxy Unpacked event in London on 22 July.

The company describes it as its lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date, weighing 201 grams.

The new foldable features:

  • A redesigned 10:16 cover display for everyday use.
  • A larger 4:3 main folding display designed for multitasking, reading, gaming, and content creation.
  • A thinner, more compact design that Samsung says fits comfortably in a flight suit pocket.

The Fold8 represents the latest generation of Samsung’s foldable smartphone lineup, building on seven generations of Galaxy Fold development.

Ahmed Al Shehhi Joined the Jump

UAE athlete, skydiver, and jet suit pilot Ahmed Al Shehhi also participated in the activation.

He documented the experience from take-off through the final jump, capturing footage with the Galaxy Z Fold8 while following the formation through the skies above Dubai.

His aerial perspective formed part of Samsung’s launch campaign documenting the event.

Capturing the Story Behind the Stunt

Samsung also produced a cinematic campaign showcasing the preparation behind the jump.

The film follows the skydivers through rehearsals, equipment checks, boarding the aircraft, and the final freefall above Dubai, highlighting both the technical planning and teamwork required to complete the formation successfully.

Celebrating Innovation Through Experience

Fadi Abu Shamat, Vice President and Head of the Mobile eXperience Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics, said the event reflected the philosophy behind the new device.

According to the company, the Galaxy Z Fold8 was designed around changing consumer habits, with an emphasis on content creation, productivity, and immersive entertainment.

By recreating the device’s silhouette above one of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks, Samsung aimed to connect the Fold8’s new design with the city’s reputation for bold engineering, innovation, and ambitious experiences.

The skydiving activation marks one of Samsung Gulf Electronics’ first major regional campaigns following the global unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold8, using Dubai’s iconic skyline to showcase the company’s newest foldable smartphone in a way few product launches have attempted before.
