Flooding across Oman has led to at least 10 fatalities as a weather depression continues to impact multiple regions. The latest incident involved the death of a Sudanese teacher after a building collapsed in Wadi Al Ain in the Wilayat of Ibri, following heavy rainfall and overflowing wadis.
Rescue Operations and Recovery Efforts
Following the collapse, emergency teams responded swiftly, deploying police aviation units to recover the victim’s body from the affected site.
At the same time, rapidly rising floodwaters had already entered the area, weakening structures and significantly increasing the risk of such incidents.
Despite these challenges, authorities confirmed that coordinated rescue operations remain active across impacted zones.
Earlier Casualty Highlights Severity
Earlier, the teacher’s death followed another fatal incident involving a child who was swept away by strong water currents in a wadi in the Wilayat of Izki, located in Al Dakhiliyah.
In response, search and rescue teams deployed immediately and later recovered the child’s body.
Taken together, these incidents underscore the dangers posed by fast-moving floodwaters during seasonal weather systems.
Large-Scale Emergency Response
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Committee is overseeing response operations across affected governorates.
Currently, teams are focusing on ensuring public safety, maintaining essential services, and managing evacuations in high-risk areas.

Shelters and Evacuations Underway
A total of 533 people have been moved to shelters since the onset of the weather conditions.
Currently, nine shelters are operational, housing 253 individuals, while additional evacuees are being supported through ongoing response measures. Rescue teams remain active, assisting residents and relocating those in vulnerable locations.
