After being told he would never succeed, he found a fresh start and new opportunities in the UAE.

From Rejection in Brazil to a New Beginning in the UAE

When Pedro Bruno Neto looks back on the early years of his career in Brazil, he does not think about success. He remembers uncertainty, financial struggles, and the determination required to keep moving forward.

Today, the 33-year-old Brazilian works as a personal trainer in Abu Dhabi, helping clients transform their health and lifestyles. But his path to the UAE was far from easy.

“I had always dreamed of working with someone influential, someone who truly valued and recognized my work,” Neto told Gulf News.

Before that dream became reality, he spent years juggling multiple jobs, overcoming criticism, and fighting to build a career in an industry that often offered more challenges than rewards.

Building a Career Against the Odds

After completing his postgraduate studies in personal training, Neto quickly discovered that working full-time in fitness was not enough to provide financial stability in Brazil.

To support himself, he taught CrossFit classes at several gyms across São Paulo while also coaching a university rugby team. Personal training sessions were squeezed into whatever free hours remained between his other commitments.

“Only in between those commitments did I have time to work with my personal training clients. Even so, I never stopped coaching them, and that provided me with additional income,” he recalled.

Despite the demanding schedule, Neto never lost sight of his goal of building a successful career in fitness.

The Criticism That Almost Broke Him

The journey was not only financially difficult. It was also emotionally challenging.

During the early stages of his career, Neto faced criticism from people who doubted his future.

An internship supervisor once told him he would never succeed after he raised concerns about issues within a gym. At university, one professor was even more dismissive.

“He said he would tear up his diploma if I ever became a successful professional,” Neto said.

While those comments were painful, they became fuel rather than obstacles. Alongside the criticism, Neto received encouragement from friends, clients, colleagues, and, most importantly, his family.

Their belief in him became the foundation that helped him push through difficult periods.

A Life-Changing Opportunity

Everything changed when an opportunity in the UAE appeared.

After being selected from a large pool of candidates, Neto saw the move as a chance to start over and pursue the career he had always envisioned.

“I felt privileged to have been chosen among so many candidates. A flood of memories went through my mind, including everything I had endured and studied to get to that point,” he said.

After arriving in the UAE in 2022, he made a decision that would shape the next chapter of his life: he would dedicate himself entirely to personal training.

Adjusting to a New Country

The transition was not without challenges.

Coming from São Paulo, a city of more than 10 million people, moving to Ras Al Khaimah required significant adjustment.

“I came from São Paulo, a city full of movement, public transportation, and people everywhere. Ras Al Khaimah is quieter and has a very different pace of life,” he explained.

Language was another hurdle. While he spoke Portuguese, working professionally in English required confidence and practice.

Fortunately, he found support from both the Brazilian community and residents.

“I was fortunate to have Brazilian friends who helped me become more comfortable working in English. I also had local friends in Ras Al Khaimah who helped me learn basic Arabic and better understand the culture around me,” he said.

The climate also took some getting used to.

“In Brazil, summer is the season for beaches and outdoor activities. In the UAE, those experiences are often more enjoyable during the winter months,” he added.

Transforming Lives Through Fitness

Today, Neto has established himself as a full-time personal trainer in Abu Dhabi and has built a career that once seemed out of reach.

One of his most memorable experiences involved working with a VIP client in Ras Al Khaimah, an opportunity that reinforced his belief in the value of fitness professionals.

However, for Neto, the most meaningful achievements are not tied to status or recognition.

“My work is about helping people, regardless of their social class or status,” he said.

Throughout his career, he has worked with police candidates preparing for fitness tests, athletes competing in football, basketball, and combat sports, and individuals struggling with obesity, hypertension, smoking, and alcohol dependency.

One transformation remains especially close to his heart.

A 40-year-old woman approached him with a deeply personal goal: she wanted to become a mother after years of difficulty conceiving.

After a year of dedicated training and lifestyle changes, she achieved that dream.

“That remains one of the most memorable success stories of my career,” Neto said.

Another client, Hamed, lost 22 kilograms after a year of training. He had initially struggled with severe joint pain and gout that limited his movement. Through consistent training and lifestyle improvements, those issues were significantly reduced.

A Bigger Mission Beyond Fitness

Although Neto has built a successful career in the UAE, his ambitions extend beyond personal training.

He hopes to launch a sports-focused initiative for underprivileged children in the future.

Having previously coached young people in vulnerable communities in São Paulo, he witnessed firsthand how limited opportunities can shape a child’s future.

“Children from disadvantaged backgrounds need support, guidance, and opportunities to become integrated into society so they can avoid situations of vulnerability and stay away from violence and crime,” he said.

For Neto, sport has always been about more than physical fitness. It is a tool for confidence, discipline, and social development.

Why the UAE Feels Like a Second Chance

Reflecting on his journey, Neto believes the UAE provided something he struggled to find elsewhere: recognition for hard work and dedication.

“Always strive to do your best every single day, regardless of your salary or the position you hold,” he said.

That philosophy continues to guide both his professional and personal life.

After years of hearing that he would never succeed, Neto found an environment where effort is rewarded, and opportunities are available to those willing to work for them.

“Here in the UAE, there is always someone willing to recognize your hard work, value your dedication, and potentially change your life in ways you could never have imagined.”

For a man who once balanced multiple jobs to survive, the UAE became more than a career move. It became a second chance to build the future he always believed was possible.
