National carriers are adding routes across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East to strengthen international connectivity.
The UAE’s aviation sector is continuing its rapid global expansion, with the country’s national airlines adding new destinations, increasing flight frequencies, and strengthening international partnerships throughout 2026.
Led by Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia, the latest network expansion reinforces the UAE’s position as one of the world’s leading aviation hubs while improving connectivity for residents, tourists, and transit passengers.
The airlines are pursuing different growth strategies, from launching long-haul international routes and expanding into underserved markets to increasing regional connectivity and broadening global codeshare networks.
Emirates Expands European and Long-Haul Network
Emirates, which serves around 140 destinations across six continents, continues to strengthen its international network with new services and increased capacity on popular routes.
The airline will launch a daily Dubai-Helsinki service on October 1, creating the first year-round direct connection between the UAE and Finland.
To meet rising travel demand, Emirates has also introduced a second daily flight to Copenhagen, while increasing services to Phuket and Cape Town.
Beyond its own network, Emirates continues to extend global connectivity through commercial partnerships. By the end of March 2026, the airline had 32 codeshare partners and 117 interline agreements, giving customers access to more than 1,700 destinations worldwide.
Its partnership with flydubai alone enables seamless travel to over 240 destinations across more than 100 countries, with through check-in and baggage transfers available on eligible itineraries.
Etihad Strengthens Abu Dhabi’s Global Reach
Etihad Airways has accelerated its international expansion by introducing new destinations including Krakow, Palma de Mallorca, Damascus, and Zanzibar.
The airline has also resumed seasonal flights to popular leisure destinations such as Mykonos, Santorini, Malaga, Nice, and El Alamein.
Africa remains a major focus for Etihad’s growth strategy. The airline has announced plans to launch services to Accra, Asmara, Harare, Kinshasa, Lagos, and Brazzaville, while increasing overall summer capacity by 10% compared with last year.
Etihad is also expanding its partnership network through new agreements, including a codeshare with Uzbekistan Airways and an interline partnership with Air Peace, providing access to 20 additional destinations across Nigeria, West Africa, and Central Africa.
The airline now works with 46 codeshare partners and more than 130 interline airlines, giving passengers access to over 350 destinations globally.
flydubai Connects Underserved Markets
flydubai continues to focus on destinations with limited direct connectivity to the UAE.
The airline now operates flights to more than 120 destinations in 58 countries and recently launched services to Benghazi, followed by flights to Bangkok, which were quickly increased to twice daily due to strong demand.
It has also resumed operations to Aleppo and plans to begin daily flights to Pokhara, Nepal, later this year.
Since its launch, flydubai says it has opened more than 100 routes that previously had no direct connection with Dubai or were not served by a UAE national carrier.
Air Arabia Grows European and Regional Services
Sharjah-based Air Arabia has expanded both its European and Middle Eastern network.
The low-cost carrier introduced twice-daily flights to London Gatwick, launched services to Rome Fiumicino, and resumed direct operations to Aleppo.
Meanwhile, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi has added Aleppo and Amman Civil Airport to its network while increasing flights to Damascus, further strengthening connectivity between the UAE and the Levant.
Stronger Global Connectivity Through Partnerships
Alongside launching new routes, UAE airlines continue to expand their global reach through codeshare and interline partnerships that allow passengers to travel far beyond each carrier’s own network.
These agreements provide smoother connections, integrated ticketing, baggage transfers, and access to hundreds of additional destinations worldwide.
With more than 200 nationalities living in the UAE, demand for international travel remains strong throughout the year. The continued expansion of Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia further strengthens the country’s position as one of the world’s most connected aviation, tourism, and transit hubs.
