With just weeks to go, anticipation is steadily building across the country as Ramadan 2026 in the UAE draws closer. According to early astronomical estimates released by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), the holy month of fasting, reflection, and generosity is expected to begin in mid-February. However, as always, the final confirmation will depend on the traditional crescent moon sighting.

When is Ramadan 2026 in the UAE likely to begin?

According to IACAD’s Hijri-to-Gregorian calendar conversion, Ramadan is predicted to begin between February 17 and 19, 2026. Among these dates, Wednesday, February 18, appears to be the most likely first day.

Nonetheless, Islamic months officially begin only when the moon is visible. As a result, UAE officials will announce the exact commencement date closer to the time.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and has profound spiritual importance. During this time, Muslims fast from sunrise until sunset, increase their prayers, and devote time to charity and self-reflection.

Laylat al-Qadr: The most sacred night

As Ramadan progresses, attention turns to Laylat al-Qadr, the Night of Power, which is considered one of Islam’s most sacred evenings.

According to the IACAD’s 2026 religious calendar, Laylat al-Qadr is scheduled for Tuesday night, March 17. On this night, believers remember the revelation of the Holy Quran and engage in extended prayer, forgiveness, and spiritual refreshment.

When will Ramadan end?

If the projected calendar holds, Ramadan is expected to conclude on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Still, the exact length of the month, whether 29 or 30 days, will ultimately depend on moon sighting at the end of Ramadan.

Eid Al Fitr 2026: First long weekend of the year

Immediately after Ramadan comes Eid Al Fitr, the festival marking the completion of fasting.

In the UAE, Eid Al Fitr 2026 is expected to fall on Friday, March 20, which could create the first long weekend of the year for residents.

Under UAE law, the first three days of Shawwal are designated public holidays. If Ramadan lasts 30 days, the holiday period may extend further. As a result, families could have additional time to celebrate, travel, and gather with loved ones.

Ramadan and school holidays align

For families, the 2026 calendar offers an added advantage.

  • Private schools in Dubai following a September academic start will observe spring break from March 16 to March 30.
  • Ministry of Education curriculum schools will close from March 16 to March 29.

Consequently, the final days of Ramadan and Eid celebrations are set to align closely with school holidays, allowing families to spend a longer festive and reflective period together.

Important Note:

While these dates are based on astronomical projections, the official confirmation of:

  • Ramadan’s start
  • Eid Al Fitr
  • Public holiday duration

will come only from the UAE Moon-Sighting Committee and the UAE government, closer to the time.
