Six armed security personnel were positioned outside the residence, in addition to a uniformed police officer already assigned to the location. Investigators are examining the digital trail linked to the voice note.

Police Probe and Possible Gang Angle

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have launched a probe into the incident amid rising concerns over criminals targeting public figures in the city’s entertainment industry.

Investigators are also examining whether the threat has any links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which authorities have connected to threats against several high-profile personalities in recent months.

At the same time, officials are analysing communication records and digital footprints to trace and identify the sender.

Housing Society Raises Objections

However, the heightened security presence has sparked concern within the couple’s housing society.

According to reports, the managing committee has written to Dadar Police Station, expressing unease over armed guards stationed in shared areas such as the lobby, gymnasium, and children’s play zones.

Furthermore, the society has sought clarification on whether authorities obtained the required permissions to deploy armed personnel within common spaces.

Broader Context: Recent Incidents in Mumbai

The extortion threat follows other incidents involving prominent industry figures. Recently, gunshots were fired outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty in Juhu.

Police stated that the vehicle used in that attack had moved through multiple intermediaries before reaching the location. Investigators described the crime structure as modular, with different individuals assigned separate tasks without direct links to one another.

Career Momentum Continues

The threat comes at a time when Ranveer Singh is experiencing strong box-office performance. His spy thriller Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has reportedly crossed ₹1,300 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. The film is streaming on Netflix, with a sequel titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge scheduled for release on March 19, 2026.

Deepika Padukone, who welcomed their daughter Dua in September 2024, was last seen in Singham Again and is preparing for her next film King, alongside Shah Rukh Khan.

Investigation Ongoing

Mumbai Police continue to investigate the WhatsApp extortion threat. Security around the couple’s residence remains heightened as authorities work to identify those responsible and determine whether the incident is linked to broader criminal networks operating in the city.
