The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security announced that travellers unable to leave the country because of suspended or delayed flights will not face visa overstay fines.
Authorities introduced the measure after regional developments forced airspace closures and disrupted flight schedules across parts of the Middle East.
Exemption Covers Visitors and Residents
The decision applies to individuals who could not depart the UAE as planned due to circumstances beyond their control. This includes visitors holding tourist visas, visit visas, or exit permits. It also applies to residents who had already cancelled their residency permits while preparing to leave the country.
The exemption covers fines incurred on or after February 28, 2026.
Officials said the move ensures that affected individuals can regularize their legal status without financial penalties caused by travel disruptions.
Response to Regional Flight Disruptions
Airspace restrictions and suspended flights across the region created unexpected delays for thousands of travelers. As a result, some visitors risked overstaying visas despite having confirmed travel plans.
The authority stated that the exemption addresses exactly these cases, where travelers could not depart on their scheduled dates because airlines delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled flights.
Support Services Remain Active
Government teams across the country’s airports and service centers continue operating under emergency and business continuity plans. Authorities are coordinating with airlines and relevant agencies to process affected cases and assist travelers.
Customer happiness centers and airport teams are helping visitors resolve visa matters, update travel documentation, and manage departure arrangements once flights resume.
Humanitarian Approach to Emergencies
Officials emphasized that the policy reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach during exceptional circumstances. Authorities aim to prevent travelers from facing financial or legal difficulties caused by events outside their control.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining service continuity and providing assistance during disruptions.
Travelers have been advised to follow official government channels for updates regarding flights, immigration procedures, and regulatory guidance.
The announcement reinforces the UAE’s reputation as a travel hub capable of responding quickly to crises while maintaining orderly immigration systems.
