From Box Office Giant to Digital Release
Dhurandhar: The Revenge has continued its success beyond cinemas and is now moving toward a digital release after a powerful run at the box office.
Within weeks of release, the film earned more than Rs 10 billion in India and crossed Rs 16 billion worldwide. As a result, it has become one of the highest-grossing Hindi films in recent years.
Moreover, the film’s move to streaming follows a growing trend in the industry. Major theatrical releases now often extend their momentum through digital platforms, allowing producers to reach viewers who prefer to watch from home.
Streaming Platform and Rights Deal
This time, Dhurandhar: The Revenge will stream on JioHotstar.
That marks a major change from the first film, which premiered on Netflix after its theatrical run.
According to reports, JioHotstar secured the digital rights for around Rs 1.5 billion. In comparison, the previous film sold its streaming rights for almost half that amount. Therefore, the new deal highlights the film’s much stronger commercial value and wider audience appeal.
At the same time, Star Gold has acquired the satellite rights, ensuring that the film will also reach television audiences after its digital release.
Expected Release Window
Although the makers have not announced an official release date, industry sources expect the film to arrive in late May or early June 2026.
More specifically, the platform appears likely to wait until after the 2026 Indian Premier League season ends before releasing the film online.
Why the Release May Come After IPL 2026
The timing is not accidental. Instead, the producers and streaming platforms seem to have chosen a careful strategy.
The Indian Premier League attracts millions of viewers across television and streaming every year. Consequently, any film released during the tournament risks losing attention.
By waiting until the IPL ends, JioHotstar can give Dhurandhar: The Revenge a clearer window and a stronger chance to attract large digital audiences. Therefore, the delayed release could help the film repeat its theatrical success on streaming as well.
Story Continuation and Scale
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the sequel continues the espionage narrative, expanding its scope into more complex international operations.
Ranveer Singh returns as Hamza Ali Mazari, carrying forward the character’s arc with higher stakes and broader geopolitical tension. The cast includes Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Gaurav Gera, reinforcing the film’s scale and narrative depth.
Expanding the Film’s Lifecycle
The OTT release represents the next phase in the film’s lifecycle, extending its reach beyond theatrical audiences.
With strong box-office numbers already established, the streaming debut is poised to sustain interest, attract new viewers, and reinforce the franchise’s standing in the action-thriller genre.
