Abu Dhabi Issues Emergency Alert After Missile Strike

Authorities in Abu Dhabi sent emergency alerts to residents on Saturday afternoon after explosions shook parts of the capital, warning of potential missile threats and instructing people to take immediate cover.

Phones across the city displayed urgent notifications directing residents to move into the nearest secure building and stay away from windows, doors, and open areas. Officials acted quickly as air defence systems engaged incoming threats.

One Fatality Confirmed

The UAE Ministry of Defense confirmed that the United Arab Emirates faced what it described as a “blatant attack by Iranian ballistic missiles.” Air defence units intercepted several missiles, preventing wider damage.

However, falling shrapnel struck a residential area and killed one person of Asian nationality. Authorities clarified that debris impact, not a direct hit, caused the fatality.

In response, officials condemned the attack as a dangerous escalation and stated that the UAE reserves its full right to respond.

Authorities Secure Affected Areas

Immediately afterward, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority urged residents to avoid locations where debris or suspicious objects had fallen. Officials instructed the public not to approach, touch, or photograph such materials so emergency teams could secure and investigate the sites safely.

At the same time, the UAE temporarily and partially closed its airspace as a precautionary measure.

Embassy Advisory Issued

Given the regional situation, the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi issued an advisory to Indian nationals. The embassy urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, remain vigilant, and follow official safety guidance issued by UAE authorities.

The embassy and the Consulate General in Dubai confirmed that they continue to operate normally and provided emergency contact channels for assistance.

Strategic Context

The developments unfolded against a backdrop of heightened regional tensions. Al Dhafra Air Base, located south of Abu Dhabi and shared with the UAE Air Force, serves as a key operational hub for US Air Force missions. Meanwhile, Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port functions as the US Navy’s largest port of call in the Middle East.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise residents to rely on official channels for verified updates.

The UAE closed its airspace “temporarily and partially”.
